What are the uses of aspirin?

Buffered aspirin helps coat the stomach so the stomach does not get upset. The ASA (aspirin) portion remains the same, but because the coating is not fully gone until the tablet reaches the small intestine, very little of the compound is released in the stomach.

Unbuffered ASA can cause stomach lining irritation, ulcer, and if severe the ulcer can perforate--poke a hole through the stomach wall. All of these effects can cause stomach pain and interfere with appetite.
