How the caste system ensured a stable social order in India?

Membership in a caste determined what jobs one could hold and whom one could marry. A social hierarchy developed in which some castes had more privileges that others. Castes provided many advantages, like not having to do the dirty work of the untouchables, like handling dead animals, as not everyone belonged to a caste. The order of castes could and did change frequently.
