What organism absorbs PCB directly from the water?

PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) are absorbed directly from water by various aquatic organisms, particularly filter feeders like clams and mussels. These organisms take in water and filter out food particles, inadvertently absorbing PCBs along with their diet. Additionally, fish species can also accumulate PCBs through their gills and skin when they swim in contaminated waters. This bioaccumulation can lead to higher concentrations of PCBs in the food web.
