What order do the colors go in a sunset?

In a typical sunset, the colors appear in the following order: first, you may see shades of yellow and orange as the sun begins to set. As the sun moves further below the horizon, red and pink hues become more prominent. Finally, as twilight sets in, you may notice purples and blues in the sky. This sequence is due to the scattering of sunlight by the Earth's atmosphere, with shorter wavelengths (blues and violets) being scattered more than longer wavelengths (reds and Oranges).
