The time needed to vaporize water is significantly greater than the time needed to melt it because vaporization requires overcoming stronger intermolecular forces. In melting, solid water (ice) transitions to liquid, requiring only enough energy to break the rigid hydrogen bonds that hold the ice structure together. However, during vaporization, additional energy is needed to completely overcome these forces and transition the liquid water into water vapor, which requires a higher energy input and therefore more time.
