How do you explain inferring?

Inferring is when you use the clues around you to figure out what is happening. For example, let's say you are reading a book. It starts of as saying "Once upon a time, Tim was sitting in front of a large screen with popcorn in his hands," You can infer that Tim was in a movie theater waiting for a movie to start.
