i can't quantify exactly, but it is a myth that tropical Spiders are the nasty ones. the two most venomous -- the black widow & the brown recluse (#1) -- both live in temperate climates. most spiders are "our friends" -- they have a very real & beneficial place in the ecosystem. NO tarantulas are as dangerous as your neighbor's dog; however, if you don't know exactly what you are doing "playing" w/ either is very foolish.
