Why do some people stay away from gays and lesbians?

Some people are extremely religious and believe that God frowns upon gays and that if you are gay, you will be damned to Hell. They also argue that the Bible says marriage is a sacred ceremony held only between a woman and a man, or people of the opposite sex, not the same. However, more and more people are supporting gay rights and the legalization of gay marriage is spreading in the Western World.

Gay marriage is currently legal in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, and Sweden. Gay marriage is also legal in the US states of Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and Washington (in addition to the national capital: Washington, D.C.), the Mexican state of Quintana Roo (in addition to the national capital: Federal District of Mexico City), and the Brazilian states of Alagoas, Bahia, Piauí, and São Paulo. The high courts of Colombia and Nepal have also voted gay marriage legal, although the law has not yet been placed in effect.

Gay marriage is recognized or performed in limited circumstances in the US states of California and Rhode Island, the remaining states of Mexico, the remaining states of Brazil, Israel, and the Dutch Lesser Antilles.

Gay marriage legalization is currently being considered in Uruguay, the United Kingdom, France, and Luxembourg.
