Why did Mary doubt the angel?

Mary did not doubt the angel. She asked for information: "How will this come to be, since I do not know man?" Zechariah doubted: "How will I know this?" The obvious answer to Zechariah was, "I just told you." That's why he was struck dumb, and Mary was given an answer.
