What happened to Roanoke colony after the summer of 1587?

Answer: The fate of the colonists is unknown. There are several theories, all of which have some validity. Some of the colonists may have moved south to merge with the friendly natives, some may have moved north to the Chesapeake (where the colony was supposed to settle), some may have moved 50 miles to the west, and some may have tried to sail back to England.
