Most commonly, a tank with compressed nitrogen, compressed air, or liquid CO2 is used. The process is basically simple, but must be done carefully because a failure between the tank and its valve can be fatal.
First, check the bottle and the gun. Make sure there is no damage to either. Make sure the seal on the bottle is intact and in place. Then align the bottle to the gun and gently turn the bottle on a few turns. Make sure it is properly threaded.
Then, aim the bottle towards the ground and away from any people. Keeping your hands away from the bottom of the bottle, rapidly turn the bottle until it is fully seated in the gun. Do not use excessive force.
To remove the bottle, you basically reverse the process. However, this process is significantly more dangerous and you must pay attention to what you are doing. It is vital that you keep your hands away from the bottom of the bottle, do not aim the bottle at or near any people.
As you unscrew the bottle from the gun, make 100% sure that the valve is turning with the bottle. If it is not, stop immediately. Most CO2 bottles will have a white line across the tank and valve. This will make it easy to see if one is turning without the other.
Paintballs can hurt. And if they hit you in the eye without protection, you could loes an eye. But CO2 bottles can kill people. Please be careful and have an expert show you how to do this safely if you have any questions.
