How do you remove body oils from leather furniture?

Body oils are very destructive to leather and any finishes that have been applied. Removal of body oils once they have penetrated the leather is a professional job as in removing the oils you are also likely to remove colour from the leather and this will need replacing.

A degreasing compound is used to draw the oils from the leather (there will be far more in the leather than can be seen on the surface) and this takes a few hours to really extract all the oil. Once degreased the leather can then be recoloured and refinished.

Using a professional leather protector can help inhibit the absorption of body oils very successfully and a regular maintenance clean will remove any body oils that are then sitting on the surface.
