Which is better for prying open a stuck cover from a pan of paint- thick screwdriver or long handled screwdriver?

The wider the screwdriver, the better. Longer handle will give a fling affect possibly resulting in thrown paint splatter.

ANS 2 - Why not do the sensible thing and just get a paint can opening handle, available for less than a dollar at every paint store and hardware store.
