Block Grants: Block grants leave it up to the grant receiver (for example, a US State from the Federal Government) to decide what to do with the money.

Categorical Grant: Categorical grants are granted to the receiver (for example, a US State from the Federal Government) for a specific project or projects. Many times these projects include interstate (road) funding, education funding, or state job funding.
