Some of the things they may or may not do include these:
- open joint bank accounts;
- execute mutual wills and otherwise designate each other as beneficiaries;
- purchase or lease a residence jointly;
- request health benefits from one spouse's employer for the other spouse;
- change one spouse's last name to that of the other spouse;
- adopt children;
- purchase or rent a vehicle together;
- plan for their retirements;
- live, sleep and eat meals together;
- together decide who will be responsible for which household chores;
- start referring to each other as "my husband" or "my wife" when speaking to third parties; and,
- love each other.
As you can see, there is little difference between the same-sex couple or the opposite-sex couple, except maybe:
- No need for Birth Control;
- One spouse cannot bear the other spouse's child.
