Why is escargot famous?

Escargot is "snail" in French. Not everybody eats snails and not all snails are edible. Since many of the things snails eat are pretty disgusting and toxic, the stuffs need to be removed from their digestive system. They are also high in protein and low in fat. It is famous because it is basically a weird dish that is incredibly healthy.
