does the cna certificate expire and if you did not work as a cna since certification is there a refresher course you have to take?

Yes the CNA certificate expires if you do not work as a nurse's assistant for 2 years. If you do not work as a CNA long enough for your certificate to expire than you have to retake the course to obtain active status.
