Irvin comes from the surname Irvine, which has three origins. Two from Scotland, either (1) Irvine or Irving. Both places are named for a Celtic river whose name probably meant 'green water'. (2) It may also have come from one of the Middle English names Irwyn, Erwyn or Everwyn, these are composed of Old English elements meaning 'wild boar' and 'friend'.
