More generally, please understand that any person claiming to be psychic or a medium for money may well be engaging in trickery. There is certainly a long history of this. Mentalists entertain using similar techniques. The debates start when someone does things that look to the casual observer like mentalism effects but claims that what they do is real.

One good test is to see if the person can tell you things about themselves with no prior knowledge whatsoever of you. Be very careful about this. You can even use a false name when booking a sitting. Even better, given the name of a friend whose background you know or you can check. If the reading you get seems more for them than for you, it is very likely you have uncovered a fraud.
