On what hand do you wear an wedding ring?

In many societies, including Christian, men wear their wedding ring on the left hand. This is because the majority of people are right-handed and therefore the ring doesn't pose too much of a hazard. However, given modern work equipment, men engaged regularly in any kind of manual labour will wear the ring on a chain around the neck, or simply leave it at home: it is very dangerous to wear any kind of finger ornaments while working as a tradesman, or in any work that could result in the ring catching on machinery or other stock equipment.
