How do trains help us?

Trains were first built in Britain and helped transport goods and people and fired the Industrial Revolution. In the USA it enabled much more comforatble and faster coast to coast travel. In the modern era, the high speed trains have enabled competion with air travel. The French TGV between Paris and Lyon was/is a great example of that.
