Which one is bigger a messa a butte or a plateau?

A plateau is a largish level area of land raised substantially higher than adjoining land. Plateaus are usually perceived as quite big. A mesa (note spelling with one "s") is like a small plateau. A butte is a hill that rises abruptly without other hills around it, and is typically smaller than a mesa.
