Why did NATO and the Warsaw Pact form after World War 2?

NATO and the Warsaw Pact formed as a response to the geopolitical tensions of the Cold War following World War II. NATO, established in 1949, aimed to provide collective security against the perceived threat of Soviet expansion in Europe.
