Darius the Great, also known as Darius I, was the third Persian King of Kings of the Achaemenid Empire. Three adjectives commonly used to describe him are "ambitious," referring to his expansion of the empire; "organized," for his establishment of a well-structured administration; and "innovative," for his introduction of standardized coinage and improvements in infrastructure such as the Royal Road.
