How many moves does Pikachu know in Pokemon Y?

In Pokémon Y, Pikachu can learn a total of 40 moves through leveling up, TMs (Technical Machines), HMs (Hidden Machines), and breeding. However, at any given time, a Pikachu can only have four moves in its moveset. Players can choose which moves to keep or replace as they level up or acquire new moves.
