What does end off mean in crochet?

In crocheting, to end off means to cut the yarn or crochet thread and tie it so that it cannot unravel. What I usually do is cut the thread for enough for at least five knots. Then I do a single stich, pulling the cut thread through the loop that was on the hook. Then I tie at least two knots.
