Why did the strict caste system develop?

The strict Caste System in India developed primarily due to the historical interplay of social, economic, and religious factors. It originated from the Vedic texts, which categorized society into four main groups (varnas) based on occupation and duties. Over time, these categories became rigid through social practices and reinforced by religious beliefs, leading to the establishment of numerous sub-castes (jatis) that further entrenched social hierarchies.
