Why is there so little wind in the locations where the atmospheric circulation cells meet?

In the areas where atmospheric circulation cells meet, such as the doldrums near the equator and the polar fronts, the wind is often light and variable due to a phenomenon called convergence. In these regions, the opposing winds from different circulation cells collide, leading to rising air rather than horizontal movement. This upward motion creates a lack of surface wind, resulting in calm conditions. Additionally, the mixing of air masses can lead to a reduction in wind speed as they neutralize each other's momentum.
