Why are Fair Trade products more expensive?

Fair Trade is a bit more expensive simply because there are premiums that must be paid to a) the communities where the product is grown and b) the Organization that organize such program. Not to mentioned most of the product comes from other countries. Cargo freight is extremely high and expensive now and days.
