I am pretty sure that to do this problem you would divide 160 (the number of feet) by 8 (the number of parts). This is 20. You now know that the value of one part, which is the total number of parts for one length of rope, is worth 20 feet. Now take the value of one part (20) and multiply it by 7 to get the value of the second part, this is 140 feet.

This means that one length of rope is 20ft and the other is 140ft. If someone else answers this and sounds more certain, they are probably correct, it has been years since I have done algebra, but I think this is correct.
