Tuesday is derived form Old English "Tiwesdæg" and Middle English "Tewesday", which means the day of Tiw or Týr who was the god of single combat, victory and heroic glory in Norse mythology, the equivalent of the Roman/Greek god Mars.
Some other European languages base the day name on the "Mars" version eg French "Mardi".
