When and where do I apply for Medicare?

You can apply for Medicare during your Initial Enrollment Period, which begins three months before you turn 65 and ends three months after your birthday month. You can apply online at the Social Security Administration’s website, by phone, or by visiting your local Social Security office. If you are under 65 and qualify due to a disability, you will be automatically enrolled after 24 months of receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period, you may have to wait for the General Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31 each year.
