Henry VIII started the Church of England with his helpers, Thomas Cromwell and Thomas Cranmer. This was so he could get the divorce with Catherine of Aragon and a marriage with Anne Boleyn. So if Henry built a new religion and forced everyone to go with it then the people on Henry's side would be protesting against the Roman Catholic Church. Henchforth PROTESTant. Hope I helped!
