Where did the latin name plumbum come from?

My science teacher once told me it was standard to use lead pipes in households (a practice that continued until the early 1900's). Plumbum for Plumbing. this sounds cool, but the actual fact is that it comes from the Word that originally meant "liquid silver" in latin, and lead was named so because of its properties.
