What actions did the roman Catholic church take during the Catholic reformation?

There was a renovation of the existing orders, new orders (like the Jesuits) were formed. The formation of catholic priests was standardized by the institution of seminaries and the council of Trent was called to address the issues raised by the Protestant Scism.
