Brinkley originated in Cambridgeshire England during the 12th Century. It is linked with ancient Anglo saxon tribes. It derived from the name 'Brynkelai' meaning the woodland clearing of a man called Brynca. Some of the brinkley family moved to Ireland and others emigrated to Australia..
