Did the early Muslim community center around Medina?

Islam initiated by the Prophet Muhammad PBUH when he lived in Macca for the first 52 years of his life only till enemies of Islam made it almost impossible for him to stay there safe, till then Islam had widely spread in Madinah and so the Prophet left Macca and went their to live in Medinah with some of his companions.
