What causes plateaus on Earth?

Plateaus are elevated flatlands that form due to various geological processes. They can be created by volcanic activity, where lava flows build up over time, or through the uplift of the Earth's crust due to tectonic forces. Erosion can also contribute by wearing down surrounding areas, leaving behind a higher, flat region. Additionally, sedimentary rock layers can accumulate and harden, resulting in a plateau when uplifted.
