Senator Robert "Bobby" Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan on June 5, 1968, in Los Angeles, California. Sirhan, a 24-year-old Palestinian, opened fire on Kennedy shortly after he delivered a victory speech after winning the California primary for the Democratic presidential nomination. Kennedy succumbed to his injuries the following day, on June 6, 1968. Sirhan was apprehended at the scene and later convicted of first-degree murder.
