The birth of Aphrodite

There are two main birth myths concerning Aphrodite:

-The first says that when Cronus castrated Ouranus and cast his genitals behind him, into the sea. From the sea foam surrounding them emerged Aphrodite, fully developed. Her birthplace was Paphos, Cyprus. This is the most popular version.

-The second says that she was simply the daughter of Zeus and Dione.
