The first American car is generally credited to Charles and Frank Duryea, who built their gasoline-powered vehicle in 1893. Known as the Duryea Motor Wagon, it was a simple design featuring a one-cylinder engine. This pioneering effort marked the beginning of the American automobile industry, leading to the establishment of the Duryea Motor Wagon Company in 1896. Other early American car manufacturers soon followed, paving the way for widespread automobile production.
