How long does it take to become a doctor of osteopathic medicine?

Generally, 4 or 5 years in the U.K. It should be noted, that in most of the U.K. and Europe, and Osteopath is not a physician, and is limited to manipulation only.

In the United States, Osteopathic physicians, which are not the same as osteopaths, complete 4 years of undergraduate college coursework, 4 years of medical school, and 3 or more years of residency before becoming licensed to practice medicine. If you add these up, you are looking at completing at least 11 years after high school.

The U.S. trained osteopathic physicians in the U.S. partake in usually 4 years undergraduate college degree, then take MCAT, and do well on both. Then the student enters into the osteopathic medical school for 4 years learning traditional medicine with 300-500 hours of OMT integrated into the curriculum in addition to the traditional medical curriculum.
