How do you write a convocation letter?

A convocation means a large formal assembly of people who meet for a specific purpose. Here, letter means a speech. So you would write a speech geared to the reason that group of people has assembled on that date, at that time.

For example, you might write a convocation speech for a Nursing School Graduation Ceremony. Pick a theme or a topic that addresses the majority of the new graduates, such as Words of inspiration built upon their years of struggling as students to attain the perfection required from nurses.

A speech of this nature could use portions of:

• memory
• humor
• examples of others, like Florence Nightingale for nurses
• ideals
• inspiration
• passing on of wisdom or experience
• future work or goals
• or a speech that contains bits of all of these areas
