There are five branches of military forces in the US. These branches are, in ascending order of combat engagement, The Coast Guard, The Air Force, The Navy, The Marine Corps, and The Army. Many consider the Marines to be a sub-group of the Navy. The federal government also has Border Patrol, ATF, and FBI agents who are uniformed.
In addition, there are uniformed law enforcement services who serve individual states, counties, and cities, such as National Guard, State Police/Highway Patrol, County Sheriff Departments, and City Police.
