How old did people think the earth was 200 years ago?

Around 200 years ago, many people believed that the Earth was only a few thousand years old, as this was the prevailing view influenced by religious beliefs. It wasn't until the late 19th and early 20th centuries that scientific evidence began to suggest that the Earth is actually much older, estimated to be around 4.5 billion years old.
