When did Jefferson commission the group of explorers?

Thomas Jefferson commissioned the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1803, shortly after the United States acquired the Louisiana Territory. He aimed to explore the newly acquired land, map a route to the Pacific Ocean, and study the region's Natural Resources and Indigenous cultures. The expedition officially began in May 1804 and concluded in September 1806.
