Difference between Microsoft word and Word pad?

Word Pad is a very simple editor for text and RTF files only. Earlier versions used to read and write Word 6 files as well.

Word is a powerful and complex Word processor with many more commands and capabilities. It can also import and export a much greater variety of formats.
