It can be performed in many different ways like clenching your jaw, crossing your fingers and trying to pull them apart, looking to your left or right as far as your can, holding both hands together and squeezing tight. The purpose for this maneuver is to distract the patient while performing reflex tests so they don't tense up causing an inaccurate reading.
