Because storage temperature for dosages and different types of medications and facilitated materials is often colder than what you find at home. For instance, topical substances are sometimes only stored at 15-Celsius (59F). Cheers. j

It has been historically believed that a lowered operating room temperature reduced the chance of perioperative infection rates in patients however this has been challenged in several medical quarters. There is growing understanding that lowered temperatures reduce blood flow and may therefore acually increase the potential for infection to occur. There are in fact no substances or drugs that require the room to be colder than normal room temperature. The only exception to this is with certain muscle relaxants and it is acceptable to have these out of the fridge for quite a long time. One major benefit to the cooler environment is to ensure the operating team aren't sweating into your wound. It is hot in those gowns!!!
