How do you stop your horse from colic?

There isn't much you can do to end a round of colic once it starts. Colic is a generic term meaing abdominal pain and can be caused by anything from excessive gas to the intestines tying themselves in knots and cutting off the blood supply. If your animal appears to have severe colic, the best recommendation is to call your veterinarian for advice as he/she can determine what kind of colic it is and how to treat it.

There are some steps you can take to help prevent colic from starting, particularly in horses. These include removing horses from pastures or padlocks with sandy turf, providing a consistent diet with adequate roughage and monitoring your horse for normal bowel movements.
